Visit to Chipping Warden Primary School
Chipping Warden Primary School is one of South Northants’ lovely small schools. And it has a fascinating history. During WW2, the school was used as a hospital for RAF pilots and each of the school’s houses are named after planes commissioned in the war: Hurricane, Lancaster, Spitfire and Wellington. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the school last week.
Mrs Bonner, the school’s Head Teacher, showed me around the school, which has a surprising amount of space and a large playground and playing fields outside. We visited each of the classes, and the pupils were delightful and really engaging with their wide range of questions about the work of an MP, and life before becoming a Member of Parliament. Their questions included my favourite job in government, attending university, the highs and lows of being an MP, how much paperwork MPs receive and my hobbies. My favourite question was what would I change if I went back in time – a tricky question to answer! We also discussed the different books they are currently reading at school, with favourite authors including David Walliams and Roald Dahl.
