As we look to build back better, an agenda of delivery has triumphed

Another blue wave has swept across our shores.

This vote of confidence is a clear indication that voters right across the country like what the government is doing and trust Conservative Mayors, PCCs and Councillors - and our fabulous new MP for Hartlepool, Jill Mortimer - to deliver on their priorities. They are casting aside those who play political games, showing that gimmicks are not vote winners.

As we look to build back better post the pandemic, an agenda of delivery has triumphed.

So why are people supporting the Conservatives and the Government’s positive mandate?

We have delivered Brexit, whilst Labour kept fighting each other and the Lib Dems kept trying to overturn the people’s decision. We have set out our post Brexit plan - to level up across the United Kingdom, creating jobs and opportunity across our country through our commitment to green growth, new infrastructure and support for enterprise.  We are securing new trade deals to give export opportunities into new fast growing markets around the world.

The vaccine rollout programme is a true UK success story, and one which demonstrates how the UK is at its best, and at its strongest when we work together. Our recovery post the pandemic can, I believe, be a positive one - with the Bank of England only this week predicting that GDP is expected to recover strongly to pre-COVID levels over the remainder of this year. People back the positive road to recovery that the Conservatives are championing.

And why do so many people believe in the Conservatives? It’s about leadership and delivery. Boris Johnson is a superb communicator and has focussed the attention of the whole of government on delivering the people’s priorities. A better future for ourselves, our children and our grandchildren; competent local service delivery at good value for money; a strong place in the world where we can hold our heads high because we are doing the right thing at home and abroad.  I have no doubt that Boris Johnson as our PM will lead our whole United Kingdom forward together, with increasing recognition that we have a great future ahead of us.
